The Prosecutor General's Office reports that the former deputy head of the Berkut Regional Military Police of Crimea was found guilty of:

  • in treason

  • abuse of power and official authority by a law enforcement officer,

  • illegal obstruction of meetings and rallies (Chapter 1 of Article 111, Chapter 2 of Article 365, Article 340 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He was sentenced to 15 years and disqualified from holding positions in state and law enforcement agencies for three years.

In addition, he was deprived of the special rank of police lieutenant colonel.

What did the convict do?

Prosecutors proved in court that the convict, having exceeded his official authority, participated in the suppression of protest actions on December 10-11, 2013, using violence.

As a result of his actions, 20 victims were tortured and injured.

Since March 2014, the convicted person, being in the territory of Crimea, assisted representatives of the Russian Federation in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine.

The trial was conducted under a special procedure in absentia because the accused was hiding in the temporarily occupied territory of the Republic of Crimea.

On November 21, 2013, the Revolution of Dignity began in Ukraine, which turned into anti-government protests, as a result of which 107 people died. They began to be called the Heavenly Hundred.
