Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, hopes that the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council on January 10 will end with quick commitments from partners to help Ukrainian air defence.

What to expect from the Ukraine-NATO Council meeting

Kuleba told Politico about his expectations.

First of all, we expect the meeting to speed up the adoption of important decisions regarding the further strengthening of Ukraine's air defense capabilities. Both regarding modern systems and their ammunition. We are deeply grateful to all our partners who continue to provide Ukraine with the means to protect its skies, he said.

Kuleba called on allies to regularly send supplies of missiles to Ukraine.

Ensuring a regular supply of missiles for the Patriots, IRIS-T, NASAMS and others is a top priority that must be completed today, not tomorrow. In addition, the more successful Ukraine's air defense is, the less likely it is that a Russian missile or drone will accidentally fly into NATO's border airspace, he added.

The minister explained that it makes sense for Ukraine's allies to mobilise all available forces to strengthen Ukraine's air defence right now.

Meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council

On January 10, the Ukraine-NATO Council will meet in Brussels in response to the recent massive Russian missile attacks on cities across Ukraine, which killed dozens of people.

Last week, Ukraine asked NATO for a meeting to discuss air defence after Russia struck Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities with Iranian-made Shahed drones and cruise and ballistic missiles.

The Ukraine-NATO Council is a joint body within which the members of the Alliance and Ukraine work to promote interaction, cooperation and Ukraine's desire to become a member of NATO.

The Ukraine-NATO Council was launched at the Vilnius NATO Summit in 2023.
