According to Latvian Foreign Minister Krisjanis Karins, Russia will continue to destabilise the international situation even after it loses the war against Ukraine.

Latvia believes Russia will not stop after defeat in Ukraine

Krisjanis Karins once again called on the international community not to forget that Russia has an "imperialist ideology", which means that it will not disappear, no matter how the Russian-Ukrainian war develops and how it ends.

Russia will not stop, Russia can only be stopped. Russia's stopping in Ukraine does not mean that it is the end. It just means that we have to move on. This is what is important for NATO: we will have to work on a long-term strategy to contain Russia, the Latvian diplomat warned.

In addition, he calls on NATO to finally strengthen the capacity and interoperability of the bloc's defence industry.

According to Krisjanis Karins, immediately after the end of the war in Ukraine, the military machine of Russia will begin to recover.

It will look for ways to provoke and create difficulties on its borders. We know that. We have to make sure on the part of NATO that the possibility of any incidents is simply excluded, thanks to our determination, our investments in defence, said the Latvian Foreign Minister.

Authorities of Latvia want to see Ukraine as member of NATO as soon as possible

According to Krisjanis Karins, NATO members should vote for Ukraine's accession to the bloc after the war is over, as this is an important part of the strategy to contain Russia.

He also reiterated that Russia has become a problem for the whole world, not just for the Ukrainian people.

If Ukraine regains its territory, Russia will still be a threat. This means that we need to adjust our thinking to the long-term perspective, the Latvian Foreign Minister stressed.
