The head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, pretends to want to start "peace" talks with Ukraine just to buy time. This was stated by the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda.

How can Russia's war against Ukraine develop further?

According to the Lithuanian leader, if the situation on the battlefield does not change in the coming months, Ukraine and Russia will be stuck in an exhausting and positional war.

Gitanas Nauseda noted that not only Kyiv but also its partners were counting on the fact that the AFU counteroffensive would be able to change everything radically, but this did not happen.

Now we will return to the status quo, the war will again become positional, exhausting. Then the losses of both sides will be calculated and, in the end, they will wait until one of the countries reaches the point where it can no longer continue the war, the politician predicts.

Even though the Russian army will try to break through the front, this does not mean the armed forces will allow the occupiers to advance deep into the country.

That is why no one in the Wely considers a scenario where Ukraine could lose the war.

According to Nauseda, Putin might try to mobilise all his resources.

The possibilities of other states are more limited, simply because they are democratic societies. These are all factors, but I repeat once again — it's not about the defeat of Ukraine, it's about a war scenario that is disadvantageous for Ukraine, Lithuanian leader reflects.

Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are possible. Only Kyiv will make the decision

According to Gitanas Nauseda, talks and rumours that Putin allegedly wants to stop the war against Ukraine and is ready for negotiations are just new "tactical tricks" of the dictator.

Russia will take advantage of this time to get back on its feet more firmly and strike a new blow with new force, the Lithuanian president warns.

He also reminded the right to negotiate belonged only to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and his team.

Ukraine should have the final word on whether to start negotiations, Nauseda concluded.
