The youngest Frech PM: what is known about Gabriel Attal

Attal replaced Elizabeth Bourne after her resignment on January 8.

French journalists draw attention to the fact that the appointment announcement was the logical culmination of ten days of hesitation and changes at the highest state level in France.

Throughout this crisis, the leader of the country, Emmanuel Macron, has shown indecision.

The mass media found that Macron proposed the PM post to Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu and former Agriculture Minister Julien Denormandie.

However, Macron stopped his choice precisely on Attal.

With an excellent image in the public mind, Gabriel Attal has performed flawlessly since the start of the school year in September. He was noted for a number of popular decisions, such as banning the wearing of the abaya in school, proactive policies against school bullying, the end of the unified high school, experiments with uniforms and sophomore years.

It is worth noting that for quite some time, Attal was also seen as a critical contender for the post of mayor of Paris in 2026 or even for the presidency in 2027.

According to the Le Figaro survey, a third of French people are convinced he is the best candidate among the current French government officials for the PM post.

Resignation of the French PM Elizabeth Bourne: the latest details

On January 8, Elizabeth Bourne submitted her resignation letter to the Elysee Palace.

Together with her, the entire government of the republic is resigning.

According to journalists, this decision was provoked by the public's dissatisfaction with the reforms of Emmanuel Macron's team.

A 62-year-old Elizabeth Bourne was appointed to the French PM post in May 2022, after the president's victory in the elections, and became the second woman in this position in the country's history.
