The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) served notice of suspicion to Vasyl Povorozniuk, Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP) Metropolitan Bishop 'for blessing Luhansk's accession' to Russia.

What is known about the traitor's case

The SSU has collected evidence against the sanctioned Metropolitan bishop of the Luhansk Diocese of the UOC MP, Vasyl Povorozniuk, who is cooperating with the Russian invaders in the temporarily occupied city.

According to the investigation, in September 2022, the cleric arrived in the Kremlin to participate in the ceremony of the so-called "accession" of the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine to Russia.

There, he supported Russia's aggressive war against our country and the occupation of part of Ukrainian territory, including Luhansk region.

In May of the same year, Povorozniuk attended a roundtable meeting held in Luhansk under the leadership of Gauleiter Pasichnyk.

Then, on the cameras of Russian TV channels, Povorozniuk, together with Kadyrov's adviser, advocated the adoption of a so-called "resolution" that spread fakes about Ukrainian soldiers and the situation at the front.

In addition, during numerous interviews with Kremlin propagandists, the defendant glorified the Russian occupiers and called for the continuation of the war against Ukraine.

What punishment does the pro-Kremlin metropolitan face?

Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators notified Povorozniuk of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (aiding the aggressor state). Earlier, the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine imposed sanctions on him.

As the cleric is hiding from justice in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region, comprehensive measures are being taken to bring him to justice.
