NATO rejects earlier French proposal for troops deployment to allies to Ukraine

A few weeks ago, the French leader Emmanuel Macron addressed his colleagues in NATO with a letter in which he proposed to consider the scenario of Western troops sent on the ground to Ukraine.

Macron did call for the deployment of NATO troops to assist AFU

Such data was shared by US Ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder.

According to him, in the mentioned letter, it was proposed to create a coalition for the introduction of the military into Ukraine, in particular for the manning of defense systems, training of the Armed Forces, cyber operations and assistance in demining.

However, the official Paris proposal did not find support among NATO members, but this did not stop Macron, so he has already publicly raised the issue.

According to Ivo Daalder, the French president "occasionally likes to throw rhetorical bombs."

However, his colleagues in the West perceive this as nothing but loud statements.

Gaining favor without paying a price seems to be ingrained in Macron’s DNA. And in that sense, his latest statement is just one more instance of a French president trying to score geopolitical points, the American ambassador notes.

Daalder also suggested that the scenario of the introduction of Western troops into Ukraine should have been discussed behind closed doors.

It is quite possible that then Kyiv's partners could agree on something concrete and significant.

Which countries can enter their troops into Ukraine

After the loud statement of the French president, only three countries allow the possibility of introducing their troops into Ukraine.

We are talking about Estonia, Canada and France.

The main condition of the official Ottawa is that all this happens far from the front line, and its troops will have a clear, non-combat role, said recently Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair.

Official Paris made a similar statement.

Otherwise, Estonia supported Macron's idea and offered to discuss a similar decision behind closed doors.
