New AFU offensive depends on the stability of Western aid, says military expert

AFU

Counteroffensive remains the primary goal of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.

When can the AFU start a new offensive?

The Ukrainian Armed Forces can launch a counter-offensive, but it depends primarily on the help of international partners.

This opinion was expressed by military and political commentator Oleksandr Kovalenko on the telethon air.

He said the counter-offensive always remains in the AFU General Staff plans.

They are always being developed and improved. Depending on the situation, they can change some aspects. But a counteroffensive is always the main goal of the Defence Forces of Ukraine, Kovalenko emphasised.

He adds that during the years of full-scale war, most of our actions were of a defensive type.

Therefore, we consider a counter-offensive as a perspective that depends on many factors, and among these factors, the element of assistance from the international community is crucial. Suppose we have enough help, as it was, for example, in the first half of 2023, especially from the US. If the US returns "to the family" in matters of aid, then, of course, this will be a significant incentive for the formation of a resource for counter-offensive actions.

Will Ukraine succeed in the war with the Russian Federation shortly

The Ukrainian army can win the war with Russia in 2025. However, this is only possible with appropriate support from European arms manufacturers.

The head of the committee on European affairs in the Bundestag, Anton Hofreiter, expressed this opinion.

He assesses the situation in the war between the countries as critical.

It is very important that the Ukrainian army manages to hold the front line this year, said Hofreiter.

Hofreiter believes that offensive actions on the part of Ukraine are now unlikely.

I do not see Ukraine being able to start an offensive this year. There are not enough resources for this, including ammunition and support from the United States, the politician said.

He noted that if the "production of ammunition and other equipment in Europe increases," then by 2025, Ukraine will be able to "take the upper hand in the defensive war against Russia." Hofreiter added that, provided that Russia does not carry out further territorial seizures, this remains "the best that Ukraine can do in the coming months."
