As The New York Times learned, the team of American leader Joe Biden is currently doing everything possible to confiscate about 300 billion dollars of sovereign Russian assets. The White House is determined to transfer this money to Ukraine, which will increase its chances of winning the war with Russia.

Biden found a new way to help Ukraine

Even though earlier official Washington categorically rejected proposals to confiscate the sovereign assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the situation has changed dramatically.

It's just that now the American authorities within the "G7" are increasingly actively trying to find out whether they can use the existing powers to use these funds or whether they have to turn to Congress.

According to the publication's anonymous sources, the White House also began to put pressure on Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan.

Joe Biden's administration insists that a strategy for the use of sovereign rockets be quickly prepared by February 24, 2024 — the second anniversary of the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

What problems may arise in case of confiscation of frozen Russian assets

As of today, the G7 has still not been able to decide whether the confiscated assets will be sent directly to Ukraine or used for its benefit in another way.

It is also an open question where these funds should be directed: exclusively for the reconstruction of Ukraine and its budgetary support or for military efforts.

In addition, it is emphasized that the West fears a mirror confiscation of its assets in Russia.

Such discussions began on the issue of additional funding for Ukraine in the United States.

And even if the funds are eventually approved, the White House needs an alternative source of funds for Kyiv to prevent similar situations.
