Over 60 cruise missiles and a dozen Kinzhal missiles shot down over Kyiv

During a massive Russian missile attack on Kyiv on 2 January, air defence forces shot down all Shahed UAVs and more than 6 dozen Kh-101/Kh-55 missiles and a dozen Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles.

Attack on Kyiv on January 2

Kyiv city military administartion (CMA) reports that the air raid alert in Kyiv lasted almost 6 hours in total.

At first, the enemy fired about a dozen Shahed-type barrage munitions at the capital of Ukraine. After that, more than a dozen Tu-95MS strategic bombers fired Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles in groups and waves.

At the same time, more than ten MiG-31K aircraft launched Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles at the capital.

As a result of such a massive missile strike, unfortunately, residential buildings were destroyed and civilian infrastructure damaged in the capital. There are victims.

Multi-storey residential buildings caught fire in the Solomenskiy district. Rescue services found more than 25 victims. An 86-year-old woman was killed.

The Kyiv CMA also noted that a heating and assistance centre for residents of the damaged buildings was set up in a school in the Solomianskyi district.

What is known about Russia’s attack on January 2

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that 92 people were injured and four were killed in another Russian attack on Kyiv and its region and Kharkiv.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, 1 person was killed and 44 injured in Kharkiv. Among the victims are 5 children, aged 6 to 13.

Two people were killed and 7 injured in the Kyiv region.

In Kyiv, one person was killed, more than 25 were injured.
