Rumours began to spread in the aggressor country about the possible resignation of the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Army General Valery Gerasimov. Colonel General Viktor Poznihir could become his successor.
Putin could fire Gerasimov. What is known about it
The Russian opposition media noted the draft government decree that appeared on the portal of regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation.
The document states that it must be agreed upon by "TVO (means "interim" or "acting" - ed.) of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Colonel General V. Poznikhir."
It is essential to understand that Valery Gerasimov was previously the Russian Armed Forces General Staff chief.
The Russian authorities have not yet commented on this information in any way, as have Gerasimov or Poznihir themselves.
Taking into account the fact that the draft of the document is published on the portal, it can hardly be about Gerasimov's vacation: by the time the resolution is approved, the vacation should have already ended.
It is also worth noting that the last news about Gerasimov's activities appeared on Feb. 26: according to the Russian Ministry of Defence, he held several awards.
Who is Viktor Poznihir, and what is known about him
Until recently, the Russian occupier was the first deputy chief of the Main Operational Directorate (GZU) of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff.
What is essential to understand is that he held this position for the past eight years.
On Feb. 19, 2024, Kermiln's chief, Vladimir Putin, awarded him the colonel general rank.
Kremlin spokesman Dmytry Peskov, commenting on the dictator's decision, said that this is a normal promotion process.
It is worth noting that Viktor Poznihir almost did not appear in the Russian information field during the last two years of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
