The authorities of Romania and Poland reached agreements with their own farmers to stop blocking checkpoints on the border with Ukraine.

Are Romanian farmers ready to end Ukraine's border blockade

According to Romanian Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu, the agreement reached includes 13 demands of Romanian farmers to the authorities.

Barbu emphasised that negotiations are currently underway to find a compromise on the unresolved issues.

The government has committed to fully subsidising all agricultural excise taxes by 2026 and immediately implementing provisions on subsidised interest loans.

In addition, the government satisfied the demands for compensation for damages caused by imports from Ukraine.

Measures include clear labelling of grain and other goods and electronic GPS monitoring of seals in the Port of Constanta.

Farmers' representative Marius Miku pointed out that it is essential to provide a derogation from the mandatory rules of crop rotation and 4% fallow land on each farm by January 31.

He said the agreement was signed after more than three hours of negotiations. Still, it does not mean an immediate end to the protest, as future talks with the carriers, which will last until January 18, may affect their duration.

What is known about the end of blocking by Polish truckers

Polish carriers agreed to end the blockade of checkpoints on the Ukrainian border after reaching a general agreement with the government of their own country.

The journalists of the publication note that the protests of Polish truckers will be stopped on January 17 at 1:00 p.m. Kyiv time.

Polish truckers demanded that the EU restore the system that requires Ukrainian companies to operate in the bloc and for European truckers entering Ukraine.

It won't be the end but there will be a suspension of the protest. We agreed certain conditions, we will give the government time to work as it is a new government, said Tomasz Borkowski of the Committee to Protect Transporters and Transport Employers.

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland has organised a press conference for today, during which the agreement should be signed.
