On the night of 2 January, Russians fired 99 missiles of various types at the territory of Ukraine. Air defence forces in cooperation with the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 72 air targets.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, on 2 January, Russia fired 99 missiles of various types at Ukraine, 72 of which were destroyed.
In particular, they managed to shoot down 10 out of 10 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, 59 out of 70 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles and 3 out of 3 Kalibr cruise missiles.
According to Zaluzhnyi, the Russians attacked civilian and critical infrastructure, industrial and military facilities. They mainly targeted the capital.
Initially, the occupiers attacked with Shaheds drones from the southeast, with further movement to different regions of Ukraine. All 35 attack UAVs were destroyed.
Around 6 a.m., 16 Tu-95MS bombers fired at least 70 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 air-launched cruise missiles.
At 7:30 a.m., ten Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles were launched from MiG-31K fighters. The enemy also struck from the sea with three Kalibr cruise missiles and from the north with 12 Iskander-M/S 300/C-400 ballistic missiles.
The occupiers fired 4 Kh-31P anti-radar missiles from Su-35 tactical aircraft.
Consequences of Russian missile attack on Ukraine on January 2
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, emergency services are working in 6 districts in Kyiv, where 7 fires occurred in the Obolon, Pechersk, Podil, Solomiansk, Sviatoshynsk and Desniansk districts.
More than 130 people were evacuated from a high-rise building in the Solomensk district. About 20 people were rescued from the blocked premises by the emergency services. In total, over 20 people were reported injured in the capital.
Boryspil, Bucha and Fastiv districts in the Kyiv region were affected. Fire in a residential building in the Fastiv district was extinguished. Two people were killed.
In Vyshnevo, 5 apartment buildings and more than 40 cars were damaged. 7 people were injured.
According to the State Emergency Service, 1 person was killed and 44 injured in Kharkiv. Among the injured are 5 children aged 6 to 13.
Two people died and 7 were injured in the Kyiv region. In Kyiv, one person died, more than 25 were injured.
