Russia plans to start mass production of the new ‘Drel’ (Drill) cruise bomb in 2024.
What is known about new production of bombs in Russia
As the publication notes, the production of the first batch of the "Drel" aerial bomb is scheduled for 2024.
The development of the new bomb was first announced in 2016. The Drel is allegedly designed to destroy armoured vehicles, ground-based radar stations, power plant control centres and anti-aircraft missile systems. The bombs are allegedly resistant to jamming and radar detection, making them difficult to destroy.
Russian and Western sources claim that the Drel is a type of cluster bomb. They usually release many smaller bombs that can kill indiscriminately over a large area. Those that do not explode can be dangerous for decades.
TASS quoted a Rostec representative as saying that information about the use of bombs in the war with Ukraine is confidential. The Russian President Vladimir Putin said last July that Russia would use cluster bombs in Ukraine if necessary.
Putin announced increase in production of drones
As mentioned earlier, in August 2023, the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin instructed the state-owned Rostec Corporation to increase production of 'Kub' and 'Lancet' drones.
For some reason, the President of Russia is convinced that the Kub and Lancet are extremely effective at the front.
Moreover, he demanded that Rostec “increase the production of the latest types of weapons as a percentage of its total output’.
It was about the T-90 "Breakthrough" tanks and aircraft systems, according to reports.
