Russia is complaining about a new drone attack
The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that air defence allegedly destroyed the drone on the night of January 10. Traditionally, the Russians accused Ukraine of a "terrorist attack".
At the same time, the governor of the Saratov region emphasises that an aircraft-type drone was allegedly shot down over the territory of the Engels district.
No one was hurt. There are no consequences for the infrastructure of settlements. All objects are working normally, Busargin wrote on his Telegram channel.
Near the city of Engels is an "Engels" airfield, where strategic bombers of the Russian Federation are based. The network reports that the 121st Guards Sevastopol and 184th Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiments are stationed in Engels.
They are armed with Tu-160 and Tu-95MS heavy bombers, which the Russians use to attack Ukraine.
Previous attacks on Russian airfields
On December 5, 2022, the Engels and Diagilevo air bases were attacked, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, by Soviet-made jet drones modified by Ukraine to carry explosives.
These attacks damaged at least one Tu-22M3 strategic bomber and one Tu-95MS bomber.
Britain's Ministry of Defense suggested on December 29 that one of the reasons Ukrainian drones were able to penetrate so deep into Russian airspace is that Moscow has moved a significant portion of its air defence assets to Ukraine.
