Ukraine's border with Slovakia is partially unblocked

The Slovak side has partially resumed transit operations to enter its territory through the Vysnye Nyemetske-Uzhhorod checkpoint.

According to the agency, 3-4 trucks per hour enter Slovakia.

As of 06:00, 28 trucks have been cleared to leave Ukraine at the Uzhhorod checkpoint. 24 of them have already passed all types of control on the Slovak side, the statement said.

What is known about the blocking of the Slovak-Ukrainian border

On 29 November, the Union of Road Hauliers of Slovakia (UNAS) announced that it would start blocking the Vysnye Nyemetse-Uzhhorod border crossing on 1 December. The aim of the protest is to join Polish carriers.

This month, UNAS representatives have already blocked the Vysne Nemecke-Uzhhorod border crossing on the Slovak side for an hour in solidarity with the Polish strikers. They demanded that Brussels introduce transport permits for Ukrainian vehicles, as European companies cannot compete with them - the same as the protesters on the Polish-Ukrainian border.

On 1 December, Slovakia started blocking truck traffic through the Vysnye Nyemetske checkpoint, which is adjacent to the Ukrainian checkpoint Uzhhorod.

On 4 December, at 22:00, Slovak protesters who blocked the movement of trucks through the Vysnye Nyemetske checkpoint ended their action. Vehicles are being cleared in accordance with the established procedure.

On 8 December, a week after the opening of the Vysnye Nyemetske-Uzhhorod border crossing, UNAS met with the Minister of Transport Jožef Rat. However, no agreement was reached on the fulfilment of the carriers' demands.
