The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained an informant of the Russian secret services, who was correcting Russian airstrikes on the critical infrastructure of Kharkiv and looking for air defence.
What is known about the agent of the Russian secret service
The suspect began transmitting intelligence to the Russians via messengers in the autumn of 2023. Among the goals of the Russian Federation were strategic enterprises, particularly Ukraine's defence and industrial complex.
For greater effectiveness of missile and drone attacks on local objects, the occupiers expected to receive from their accomplice the geolocation of Ukrainian air defence.
The suspect was taking photos and videos of the consequences of Russian missile strikes on Kharkiv for further adjustment of enemy fire. He also tried to find air defence systems in the city and transmit information about their location.
Moreover, the detainee gave the info on the Ukrainian service members, equipment, and ammo deployments in Kharkiv to the Russians.
While searching the suspect's apartment, a mobile phone with evidence of illegal activity was seized.
He is currently being held without bail. The perpetrator faces up to eight years in prison.
An FSB agent was convicted of espionage
A resident of Kharkiv who worked for the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He prepared sabotage against Ukrainian pilots and commanders.
According to the SSU, the resident of Kharkiv was monitoring the Defence Forces service members in the Kharkiv region.
The man tried to establish the places of temporary deployment and residence of Ukrainian defenders and the routes of their movement in their cars. In addition, he attempted to identify enterprises of the defence and industrial complex in the region.
The Russians wanted to use such data to prepare a series of sabotage against Ukrainian defenders and at defense plants.
