Riksdag deputy and the Social Democratic Labor Party of Sweden leader, Magdalena Andersson, called for state guarantees to domestic arms manufacturers. It implies increasing Ukraine's direct production of shells.

Swedish Riksdag plans to increase weapons production

The Swedish parliament called for state guarantees to the Swedish defence industry to increase the direct ammunition production for Ukraine.

This was stated by Riksdag deputy, leader of the Social Democratic Workers' Party Magdalena Andersson.

This is reported by Dagens Nyheter.

It is time to establish direct production of ammunition for Ukraine. This will require state guarantees at the initial stage, the deputy clarified.

According to Andersson, the guarantees should extend to the war's end.

There must be guarantees so that we can get to work quickly. We also want the Northern region to be strengthened, as it will be an important geopolitical arena for a long time to come, Andersson said.

The faction leader also emphasized that weapons production should be significantly increased throughout the EU.

Ammunition for Ukraine

The countries of the West have encountered difficulties in trying to achieve their own goals for supplying ammunition to Ukraine.

The EU promised to send one million artillery shells by March 2024. But only "480,000 have been delivered or are on the conveyor," said the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, recently.

The US has provided Ukraine with over two million 155mm artillery shells since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. But their stocks were also depleted, so last summer, they decided to send cluster munitions to Ukraine.

Earlier, the OSTG "Tavria" Commander, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, said that Ukrainian servicemen on the front line faced a shortage of artillery shells against the backdrop of a reduction in aid from the allies.
