The councillor who detonated grenades during a village council session in Zakarpattia has regained consciousness. He is currently being questioned by law enforcement.

What is known about the state of the councillor

According to journalist Vitaliy Hlahola, the councillor regained consciousness despite his serious injuries.

As far as I have learnt from sources, Sergiy Batryn, despite numerous injuries and a serious condition, has already regained consciousness in the Svalyava hospital, he said.

According to the journalist, the bomber is currently under investigation, and his ward is guarded by police to prevent relatives of the wounded from staging a lynching.

The journalist also published a photograph of one of the victims of the attack. The photo shows a large number of wounds caused by the detonation of grenades.

Explosion in Zakarpattia

On 15 December, during a session of the village council in the village of Keretsky in the Zakarpattia region, the member of the Servant of the People political party, Serhiy Batryn, detonated grenades.

26 people were injured, six of them in serious condition. The politician, who detonated the grenades, is in intensive care.

The head of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration, Viktor Mykyta, said that most of the injuries were of moderate severity and not life-threatening.

According to the prosecutor's office, the village council session was discussing the adoption of the budget for 2024. During the meeting, one of the councillors entered the hall and detonated three grenades.

Investigators classified the incident under Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).

In addition, the Security Service of Ukraine will investigate the incident under Part 1 of Article 258 (terrorist act) of the Criminal Code.
