The editors of The Economist concluded that Russia is on the verge of defeat in the Black Sea, as Ukraine is not only resuming maritime trade, bypassing the Russian blockade, but also strengthening its position.

The analysts comment why Russia is losing the Black Sea

On September 19, 2023, the vessel "RESILIENT AFRICA" left the port of Chornomorsk with 3 thousand tons of Ukrainian wheat.

What is essential to understand is that this was the first ship to use Ukraine's new maritime corridor, created after the collapse of the UN-brokered grain agreement.

Despite Russia's threat to attack the ship, there were no provocations that day. Thus began a new story of Ukraine's triumph in the Black Sea.

According to analysts, the maritime corridor created by the official Kyiv was and remains a risky idea but very important for Ukraine.

What is essential to understand is that until February 24, 2022, 60% of our state's trade was carried out through deep-sea ports, which were used for centuries to access the markets of Africa and the Middle East.

We believed that it would work, but it was about the conviction of others, — explained to journalists Yuriy Vaskov, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

In addition, it is emphasized that as of December 2023, 6.3 million tons of Ukrainian goods were exported from Odesa.

Moreover, the three ports of the region: "Odesa", "Chornomorsk", and "Pivdenny" — almost returned to pre-war trade volumes.

How Ukraine managed to expel Russian ships from the Black Sea

As the spokesman of the Ukraine Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, explains, the successful operation of our defenders consisted of several stages.

First, in March 2022, the Armed Forces prevented the enemy's landing operation and prevented the Russians from encircling Odesa.

Second. Ukrainian naval forces created a 100-mile buffer zone in the northwestern part of the Black Sea after destroying the Russian flagship "Moskva" and regaining control of the strategic Snake Island.

Third. AFU was able to expel the Russian fleet from the northwestern, central, and even southwestern parts of the Black Sea with powerful missile strikes.
