Russia will no longer be able to achieve its goals in Ukraine despite its great efforts. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is convinced of this.
Putin will no longer achieve his goals in Ukraine
As NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg explained, the Russian dictator wanted to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO and the European Union with a full-scale invasion. Still, after two years of war, Ukraine is "closer to NATO and the EU than ever."
Stoltenberg believes this is a major strategic defeat for the Russian Federation, while Ukraine will eventually achieve its goal of joining NATO.
He also added that the Russian Federation has to pay a considerable price for the war against Ukraine - the aggressor country has already lost hundreds of planes, thousands of tanks and 300,000 soldiers.
In addition, in the Russian Federation, inflation has increased, and the standard of living decreased amid the war. Russia is more politically isolated than before, but all this did not change the course of the Kremlin.
The NATO Secretary General refrained from commenting on Ukraine's plans to conduct additional mobilization into the army but noted that no one understands the need for the military better than the Ukrainians themselves.
He also called for a strong continuation of support for Ukraine and explored the possibility of providing Kyiv with more defence equipment by amending existing agreements with third countries.
What is known about Ukraine's accession to NATO
On September 30, 2022, it became known that Ukraine was applying to join NATO under an accelerated procedure. Ukraine expected to receive an invitation to join NATO during the summer summit in Vilnius, but this did not happen.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasizes that Ukraine will not be able to join the Alliance until active hostilities end.
Ukraine received recommendations from NATO on joining. This happened according to the results of the Ukraine-NATO Council, the meeting of which was held in Brussels on November 29. The recommendations concern primary reforms for joining the Alliance.
