The Netherlands allocate the first tranche of aid worth €2 billion to Ukraine

The Dutch authorities have announced the first package of non-military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €102 million as part of humanitarian support and financing of urgent needs in 2024, totalling more than €2 billion.

What is known about non-military aid to Ukraine from the Netherlands

It is noted that the first tranche is allocated to finance the humanitarian and urgent needs of Ukraine during the first four months of 2024.

In a statement, the Dutch government emphasised that this aid is aimed at supporting Ukraine in the winter.

The ongoing war continues to damage Ukrainian society and the economy. Therefore, the needs remain as great as ever, the Dutch government representatives explained.

What will the money from the first package of non-military aid to Ukraine from the Netherlands go to

  • €5 million for humanitarian assistance through the UN OCHA Ukraine Humanitarian Fund;

  • €15 million euros for demining agricultural lands and liberated territories;

  • €62 million to support the Government of Ukraine in providing basic services, restoring critical infrastructure and implementing reforms through the Special Programme for Ukraine and Moldova Recovery (SPUR), part of the World Bank's International Development Association (IDA);

  • € 10 million of supplies to the Ukrainian power grid.

What is known about aid from other EU countries

The Ministry of Defence of Finland has announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine worth more than €100 million.

At the same time, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö supported the decision to increase military assistance to Ukraine.

Finland is committed to supporting Ukraine in both the short and long term. The total value of the defence equipment packages we are currently supplying is 1.6 billion euros, said Antti Hakkanen, head of the country's Defence Ministry.

To guarantee the safe delivery of this aid to Ukraine, the Finnish authorities do not disclose the contents of the cargo and the methods of its transfer.
