The police detained a suspect for murdering Nikopol's deputy mayor

The police of the Dnipropetrovsk region detained the suspect in the murder of Vitalii Zhuravlyov, who was the deputy mayor of Nikopol. The suspect fired about 20 shots at the officer's car.

A resident was suspected in the murder of the deputy mayor of Nikopol

Investigators established that the 33-year-old resident had been preparing for the murder for four months.

On the day of the incident, February 8, the man armed himself, learned about Zhuravlyov's route and waited there. When his car approached, the attacker started shooting and then threw a grenade, which caused the vehicle to catch fire.

The law enforcement officers started operative and investigative measures under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office of the Dnipropetrovsk region, during which they established the address of the residence where the attacker was hiding. In a few days, the police arrested the suspect in a rented apartment near the crime scene, the police report.

The man was informed of the suspicion of premeditated murder (Section 5, Chapter 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code). The court chose a preventive measure for him — he will be kept in custody.

The law enforcement officers also found out that the suspect planned to kill other officials of Nikopol as well. This information is being verified.

What is known about the murder of the deputy mayor of Nikopol

On February 8, around 9 a.m. in Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region, unknown persons shot the car of the city's deputy mayor, which belongs to the deputy mayor of Nikopol.

The police established that the attacker used an unidentified weapon, as a result of which the car caught fire. After extinguishing the fire, the body of a 59-year-old man was found in the cabin.
