The German defense company Rheinmetall received a large order for the production of artillery ammunition for Ukraine from one of the NATO member states.
Shells for Ukraine for €142 million
The German defense company Rheinmetall will produce artillery shells worth €142 million for Ukraine. These are tens of thousands of 155-mm artillery ammunition (if we take the price of €3,300 per ammunition, approximately 43 thousand shells).
The edition of Defense Express writes about it.
The Germans further clarify that the production and delivery of 40,000 artillery 155-mm ammunition to Ukraine from the previous order (probably the next contract for October for 100,000 155-mm shells) should take place in the next year, 2024.
Rheinmetall emphasizes that the demand for artillery ammunition is very high, not only because of the war in Ukraine but also because of NATO's and EU's member states' need to replenish their stocks. That's why the company plans to expand its production capacity and reach an annual volume of 700,000 shells at its plants in Germany, Spain, South Africa and Australia next year.
As for restocking the Bundeswehr, the company now has several multi-year framework agreements worth €1 billion, under which "several hundred" ammunition will be delivered — due to the galloping prices of weapons, it is difficult to calculate the exact amount, but if you take the same price tag of €3,300 (for example of the "October" contract of Rheinmetall), then approximately 303 thousand ammunitions are obtained.
100,000 ammunition will be produced for Ukraine
The contract provides for about 100,000 artillery mines of 120 mm calibre. The agreement is part of a €400 million military aid package for Ukraine's Armed Forces.
Deliveries will start soon and continue for the next two years.
Accordingly, the average volume of deliveries can be slightly more than 4,000 shells per month.
The concern said that thanks to the recent acquisition of the Spanish ammunition manufacturer Expal, Rheinmetall has further strengthened its already extensive experience in the field of infantry fire support.
