Every day, Ukraine is exposed to various types of threats from the Russian Federation, which continues to use toxic chemicals prohibited by the Chemical Weapons Convention against the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Russian army attacks with chemical weapons more and more often

The Russian military has increased the use of weapons with poisonous chemical elements against the Armed Forces,

This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Netherlands Oleksandr Karasevich in a speech at the 105th session of the Executive Council of the OPCW.

The Russian Federation consistently and constantly violates the rules of warfare and continues to use toxic chemicals prohibited by the Chemical Weapons Convention against the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The ambassador also noted that the Russian army is rapidly increasing the volume and expanding the geography of the use of toxic chemicals, which is also a violation of the convention.

In 2024 alone, we recorded 346 cases of the use of toxic chemicals — this is equivalent to 6 Russian violations of the convention per day. The use of chemical weapons is considered by the enemy as a means of achieving tactical advantage and demoralizing the Armed Forces. The purpose of the application is to poison servicemen of the Armed Forces and push them out of fortified positions.

According to him, as of March 1, 1,060 cases of the use of chemical substances by Russia are being investigated. So far, 72 facts of such use have been confirmed.

The main means of delivery of ammunition equipped with dangerous chemical substances are UAVs that drop gas grenades of the K-51 type (71%).

As of February 2024, 946 cases of providing medical aid to Ukrainian servicemen in connection with poisoning by an unknown substance that occurred in combat areas were registered in health care institutions of Ukraine.

Karasevych emphasized that Ukraine considers these documented cases and requests for medical help by servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to be evidence of a systematic and gross violation of the provisions of the convention by the aggressor state.

Ukrainian authorities are actively collecting evidence related to Russia's violations of the convention and will provide the technical secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and member states with information on the progress of the investigation in the prescribed manner, the ambassador added.

The Russian Federation used chemical weapons against the Armed Forces

The spokesman of the Defense Forces of the Tavria region, Dmytro Lykhova, said on the air of the telethon on March 3 that during the past day, the enemy had carried out a total of 43 combat clashes, which is a certain decrease.

Also, the Russians carried out 950 shellings, in particular, this number included nine simultaneous releases of chemical substances in tear gas grenades from drones. This is a violation of the convention on the use of chemical weapons.

He explained that "the tool dropped by the Russians is similar to the one used by the police to disperse rallies."

The spokesman added that "the occupiers are not using this substance at the front for the first time."

We have nine resets per day at once. Almost all of them are in the Zaporizhia region in the Zaporizhia direction.
