President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak signed a 10-year security cooperation agreement between the two countries.

Security Assurances Agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom

According to a Suspilne correspondent, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine and the United Kingdom have reached the highest level of relations in history.

Today we also signed a bilateral security agreement with the UK. We agreed on annual support for Ukraine, including financial support — £2.5 billion for this year. The assistance will continue in the following years, and this agreement is designed for 10 years," the President said.

Ukraine and Britain also agreed "on comprehensive cooperation to achieve the potential of the defence and security forces," Zelenskyy said.

The term of the agreement can be extended, similar to other similar security agreements concluded by world leaders. We have now agreed with the UK on security in all areas. On land, in the air, at sea, and in cyberspace," he stressed.

Rishi Sunak's visit to Kyiv

On 12 January, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in Kyiv.

He will announce that the UK will provide Ukraine with £2.5 billion in military aid in 2024-2025, an increase of £200 million over the previous two years.

At least £200 million (about UAH 8 billion) will be spent on the purchase and production of thousands of military drones for Ukraine, including reconnaissance, attack and maritime drones.

The British prime minister will also meet with representatives of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, which is dealing with the aftermath of massive shelling by Russia.
