Patriot cyber-volunteers from the "BO Team" group launched an attack against the Russian Far Eastern (the largest of the three branches) of the scientific research centre for space hydrometeorology "Planet". This had devastating consequences for Russia.

Hackers destroyed 280 servers of Russia's state-owned enterprises

This Russian state enterprise at the federal level receives and processes data from satellites and provides relevant products to more than 50 state entities.

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) clarifies that penetration into the centre's database made it possible to destroy 280 servers in the shared network.

The volume of destroyed information is about 2 petabytes (200 million gigabytes) of data.

The value of the digital array lost by Russia could be at least $10 million.

Moreover, the work of the supercomputers equipped with the Far Eastern centre is paralysed and cannot be fully restored.

One such computing device together with software costs $350 thousand. In the conditions of tough sanctions against Russia, it is practically impossible to get such software again.

Along with data stores, servers and computers, the air conditioning and humidification systems, as well as the regulation of the emergency power supply of the centre building, were paralysed as a result of the cyber attack.

Which companies are cut off from satellite data

The cyber attack destroyed meteorological and satellite data, which were actively used by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation, Roscosmos, and several other Russian agencies, and unique research has developed over the years.

The Russian station in the Arctic on the island of "Bolshevik", which performs essential tasks in the military sphere of the Russian Federation, is also completely cut off from the network.

According to the DIU, dozens of strategic companies of the Russian Federation, which work for "defence" and play a key role in supporting the Russian occupation forces, will remain without critically important information and services for a long time.
