Ukraine's MFA responded to the Slovak PM's "territorial compromise" statement

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
Fico

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, said that the only way to stop the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine is to give part of its territory to the invaders. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the inadmissibility of territorial concessions.

The Ukrainian MFA reacted to Fico's pro-Kremlin statement

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, stated that there can be no compromise on territorial integrity.

Not Ukraine, not Slovakia, not any other country, Nikolenko wrote.

He emphasised that Ukraine and its partners are making efforts to remove Russians from Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions so that they do not go further, "in particular, to Košice, Pryašiv and other Slovak regions."

Let's be frank: without security in Ukraine, there will be no security either in Slovakia or in Europe in general. We have joint efforts to bring Ukrainian victory closer, — the MFA spokesman said.

What did the Slovak PM Fico say?

The day before, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico hinted that Ukraine would have to give up part of its territories to Russia to end the war sooner.

There has to be some compromise. Why do they (Ukrainians — ed.) expect the Russians to leave Crimea, Donbas and Luhansk? This is unreal, he said.

In addition, in an interview on Saturday, which took place on the eve of the planned meeting between the Slovak leader and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Fico confirmed his position against Ukraine's application to join NATO.

I will tell him that I am against Ukraine's membership in NATO and will veto it. It would simply be the basis for World War III, nothing more. Ukraine is not an independent and sovereign country. It is under the full influence and control of the United States, Fico said.

Earlier this week, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, announced a meeting with his Slovak colleague Robert Fico. According to him, on the eve of the EU summit, the parties will discuss possible obstacles to allocating €50 billion from the European Union to Ukraine.
