The contract was made possible thanks to the Defence Material Administration of Sweden (FMV) support as part of the cooperation agreement between FMV and Ukraine's MOD during the NATO summit in Vilnius in July 2023.

Ukraine signed its first direct defence contract with Sweden

The Defence Procurement Agency concluded the first direct contract with a Swedish manufacturer. This will make it possible to improve the provision of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ukraine's Ministry of Defence states it in its statement.

This happened during the visit to Ukraine of the Minister of Defense of Sweden Paul Jonsson.

Cooperation with foreign partners is a priority of the Ministry of Defence, enabling us to improve the provision of Ukraine's Armed Forces and strengthen combat capability.

What cooperation with Sweden in the defence industry gives Ukraine

Director of the "Defense Procurement Agency" Maryna Bezrukova, said that the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. On this path, there are still many projects that Ukraine should implement in partnership with colleagues from FMV to meet the urgent needs of Ukraine's Armed Forces.

But this first step is responsible and important

Cooperation with the Swedish Defence Material Administration makes it possible to accelerate the development of our own agency and carry out further purchases, based on the best European experience in the transparency of the process of purchasing the necessary products through the use and implementation of the best European models.

The action plan agreed by the parties at the beginning of February in Stockholm, in addition to the planned contracts, also provides for the possibility to connect to the current Swedish purchases now.

For his part, FMV General Director Goran Mortensson emphasized that the experience of our cooperation under this first contract will pave the way for many subsequent agreements shortly and strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Defence Procurement Agency: What is known

At the end of January, Ukraine's MOD appointed Maryna Bezrukova as the head of the state-owned enterprise "Defence Procurement Agency". The department also announced the creation of a Supervisory Board made up of professional and competent managers of the international level.

At the beginning of February, it became known that the representatives of Ukraine and Sweden discussed the terms and conditions of purchasing a batch of Swedish-made CV-90 APVs for Ukraine.

The MOD's "Defence Procurement Agency" plans to sign contracts for "hundreds of thousands" of drones this year.
