EU supports the €50 billion allocation to Ukraine

During the government meeting, Ukraine's PM Denys Shmyhal said that on February 1, the EU should approve a new four-year support program worth €50 billion for Ukraine.

In advance, we can say that all 27 EU members agreed to support this program.

He added that this year, Ukraine expects that the EU will be able to provide financial assistance approximately at the level of 2023.

To cover the deficit of the Ukrainian budget, it would be important for us to attract about 18 billion euros from the European Union.

Thus, the United States should provide Ukraine with 11.8 billion dollars in budget support this year. A decision by Congress is expected in the near future.

Aid to Ukraine from the EU

It is worth noting that Slovakia and Hungary opposed allocating an aid package to Ukraine.

After meeting with Shmyhal in Uzhhorod, Slovak PM Robert Fico promised that his country would not block the decision.

On January 25, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Elina Valtonen, said that Orban would not block aid to Ukraine from the EU for 50 billion euros.

I am convinced that Hungary will abandon its blockade. Foreign Minister Sijarto gave us a positive signal, and I really hope that we will finally be able to approve aid to Ukraine. If not, we will find another solution, she told the German publication RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland.

At the same time, according to Politico, the EU is ready to consider depriving Hungary of its right to vote if it blocks aid to Ukraine again.
