The US Senate will reconsider the bill on aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The review will take place without immigration reform and border security.
The US Senate decided to review the bill on aid to Ukraine
The Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, reported that American lawmakers, by 58 votes to 41, supported the procedural decision needed to bring to a vote the question of ending the debate and "considering the essentially 'clean' bill on US international aid without migration reform introduced earlier today by the senator P. Murray".
She added that 60 votes would be needed for this.
According to the ambassador, a previous bill with a "big package" that includes aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and border protection was "expectedly not supported" due to the lack of votes for an agreement on migration reform, on which negotiators "worked in recent months."
The second review of the document, but without the migration reform, will take place in the Senate on February 8 at 19:00 (Kyiv time).
What is known about the issue with the bill on US aid to Ukraine
On February 7, the US Senate refused to support a bill on aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan and new funding for border security. Later in the night, following a vote in the Senate, lawmakers blocked a bill on packages to support Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan and to secure the American border.
Before that, on February 6, US President Biden called on Congress to immediately approve new funding for assistance to Ukraine.
Earlier, the US Senate presented a new bill on aid to Ukraine. It combines the allocation of funds to help Ukraine and Israel and to strengthen the southern border of the USA. Meanwhile, the White House spoke sharply about the bill on aid to Israel without Ukraine.
