A team of volunteers from the Russian-occupied Crimea has presented a new attack drone, named 'Kanyuk', designed specifically for the Ukrainian army.

What is known about Kanyuk UAV

According to Ruslan Zhadnov, the head of the Active Crimea NGO, volunteers created the new drone specifically for the Ukrainian military.

It is noted that the drawings of the UAV project were actually created by the developers from scratch.

However, during the actual collection, the volunteers watched publicly available videos and examined the insides of a Russian Orlan drone that had been in the hands of the volunteers due to the successful actions of the Ukrainian military in intercepting it earlier.

It is known that the developed UAV must be launched using a catapult and can reach speeds of up to 300 km per hour at the moment of impact.

The new drone has reportedly undergone combat tests on the frontline.

According to one of the developers, Andriy Bryukhanov, once launched, the drone must be controlled by an operator using a camera and control devices.

What are characteristics of new drone in service with Ukrainian Armed Forces

The range of the Kanyuk drone is 70 km and its weight is 10-12 kg (it can carry a charge of an anti-tank grenade).

Its advantage is, so to speak, its speed and range. Compared to, for example, small drones, it can carry a good amount of charge, the developers said.

According to them, the cost of one unit of the Kanyuk UAV is $5,000.

The creation of such UAVs is funded by volunteer contributions. If all the necessary materials are available, one drone can be assembled in a week.

Zhadnov stressed that the main goal of the volunteers was "to help the military in the southern direction, because we are Crimeans ourselves".

Of course, we want it to be successful. We have tried both there and there, and in the eastern direction, in different ways... And we have set ourselves the goal of making a drone that can fly to any part of Crimea," Zhadnov emphasised.

In total, the Active Crimea NGO has already delivered ten new drones to the frontline and received positive feedback from the military in the Kherson region.
