Chinese leader Xi Jinping announced the inevitable "reunification" of Taiwan with mainland China. He stated that this is the "main national interest" of the people.
Xi Jinping called China's reunification with Taiwan "inevitable"
Chinese leader Xi Jinping, speaking at a symposium on the 130th anniversary of the birth of the country's founder Mao Zedong, promised to resolutely oppose any attempts to "separate" Taiwan from China.
He noted the need to more conscientiously implement the policy of the ruling Communist Party in China regarding the resolution of the Taiwan issue and support for the principle of one China and the 1992 Consensus.
In addition, Xi Jinping emphasized the need to cooperate with Taiwan in all fields and called for peaceful relations between the mainland and the island.
At the same time, he once again warned against attempts to declare Taiwan's independence.
What is known about the conflict between Taiwan and China
Beijing regards the island of Taiwan as a "separatist province" and is trying to regain complete control over it. However, Taiwan considers itself an independent country with a separate economy and democratically elected leaders.
The United States provides military aid to Taiwan. Against this background, the conflict between Washington and Beijing intensified.
Recently, Taiwan reported the resumption of Chinese military activity near the island. Nine Chinese planes and several ships crossed the middle of the strait, which serves as a provisional border.
