Zelenskyy responded to statements regarding the freezing of the war by Russia

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Ukraine's partners are not yet ready to demand Kyiv freeze the war with Russia and should pay attention to the fact that Putin will not stop hostilities.

Zelenskyy responds on the threat of freezing the war

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said there is no pressure from partners to end the protection of Ukraine. He said this in a statement to the mass media following the negotiations with the Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausieda in Vilnius.

There is no pressure from partners to end our protection. There is no pressure to freeze the conflict. Currently there is none. There are different voices, I have heard, read and know of them in the media. There are different voices and different discussions. I think that the partners are not yet officially ready to give us the appropriate signals. At least, I did not hear it personally, Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy added that Putin is not going to stop what he had achieved and stop hostilities.

I think we should pay attention to the rhetoric of the President of the Russian Federation. He is not going to stop. He wants to occupy us completely. Sometimes such the uncertainty of partners in the form of results regarding financial and military aid to Ukraine and lack of quick reaction only adds courage and strength to the Russian Federation. Therefore, there is absolutely no need to delay this (the aid provision — Ed.), the president concluded.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Volodymyr Putin will not rest until he destroys Ukraine. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Moldova may be next if Ukraine does not hold out.

What preceded this statement

The publication "Bloomberg" wrote that in December 2023, a secret meeting was held between Ukraine, the Group of Seven (G7) countries, and several states of the Global South to strengthen support for Kyiv and its conditions for holding peace talks with Russia.

In November, Germany and the US denied an article in Bild about an alleged "secret plan" to push Ukraine into negotiations with Russia.

The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) warned that media reports about signals from Russian President Vladimir Putin that he is interested in a ceasefire are more aimed at preventing further military aid from the West to Ukraine.
