On February 22, the head of state, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, registered a bill in parliament to demobilise conscripts into the reserve after completing their military service during martial law.

The Verkhovna Rada will consider the bill on the demobilisation of conscripts

The draft law card No. 11035 is registered on the parliament's website.

In addition, it is emphasised that the draft law on amendments to Chapter XII, "Final Provisions" of the Law of Ukraine, "On Military Obligation and Military Service," regarding the terms of fixed-term military service, has already been sent to the committee for consideration.

The explanatory note states that the bill's development is due to the need to ensure the implementation of measures related to the release into the reserve of military personnel who have served the established terms of fixed-term military service.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy's team is counting on the fact that the implementation of the law will provide an opportunity to release into the reserve servicemen who have served the prescribed period of military service.

The bill proposes that conscripts whose term has expired during the period of martial law and whose military service has been extended beyond the established terms will be dismissed from active duty in favour of the reserves within the time limits determined by the decree of the president of Ukraine.

What is the current situation with mobilisation in Ukraine?

Back in November of last year, the Secretary of the National Security Council Oleksiy Danilov officially confirmed that conscripts whose term of service has already expired will soon be demobilised.

According to him, conscripts whose term of service has expired but who want to stay will be able to do so by concluding a contract.

Recently, the head of state, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that during the strike, they discussed the issues of mobilisation and demobilisation, AFU rotation, and issues regarding conscripts who were called up for service before the start of a full-scale war with the Russian Federation.
