A deputy of the Keretsky village council of the Khust district in the Zakarpattia region, Serhii Batryn,  who detonated grenades at one of the meetings of the village council in December 2023, was transferred from the hospital to the Uzhgorod pre-trial detention centre. It was reported to online.ua by the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman, Kateryna Khyzhniak.

The spokeswoman of the prosecutor's office noted that Batryn's health had improved, which allowed the case to be given impetus.

Now, based on the doctors' conclusions, the victim's health has improved and allows him to be kept in the penal institution. He was transferred there from one of Uzhhorod's medical institutions, Khyzhniak said.

She reminded that several examinations were ordered as part of the criminal proceedings, some of which have already received results today.

In particular, it is about forensic psychiatric examination. According to Khyzhniak, the remaining examinations will last at least another month.

Khyzhniak also confirmed to online.ua the existence of a note written by Batryn before committing the crime, which was reported by some mass media after the incident. The content of the note is now also being studied by experts.

What is known about the incident in the Keretsky village council in Zakarpattia

On December 15, 2023, Serhii Batryn, a 54-year-old deputy of the Keretsk village council in the Khust district of the Zakarpattia region, detonated three explosive devices under unknown circumstances.

He allegedly wanted to influence the decisions of the Keretsky Territorial Community and detonated grenades.

As a result of the explosions, 23 people present in the session hall received bodily injuries of varying severity.

The injured included 16 men and 7 women aged 28 to 68. Two victims died.

Investigators qualify this incident under Chapter 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organisation). This crime is punishable by imprisonment for a term of eight to fifteen years with confiscation of property.
