Official Rome intends to use its presidency of the Group of Seven to finally change the narrative that Russia is winning in Ukraine and that the West is tired of war.

Italy will deal with the Ukrainian issue during its G7 presidency

The Reuters news agency learned this from its insiders in the Italian government.

As mentioned, Rome will chair the Group of Seven, including the United States, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, France and Canada, through 2024.

According to preliminary data, the G7 leaders' summit will be held in June.

For the first time voicing Italy's priorities, the source said that the main issues on the leaders' agenda will be the conflict in the Middle East, food security, climate change, development in Africa, interaction with China and artificial intelligence. As during the last two G7 presidencies, the war in Ukraine will also be one of the main issues.

The G7 wants the whole world to understand that supporting Ukraine remains their priority.

In addition, Italy is determined to finally refute the fake narrative that Ukraine, they say, is already losing on the battlefield to the Russian invaders.

What other topics will the G7 discuss?

According to the head of the Italian government, Giorgia Meloni, the Group of Seven will also focus on the problem of the danger posed by artificial intelligence.

In addition, it is reported that official Rome will devote one session to the issue at the June 13-15 summit in Puglia.

Insiders say the G7 leaders are "virtually on the same page" on AI and that there is broad consensus on most significant issues, including how to deal with China.

According to the source, all parties are determined to avoid tensions with Beijing.

Trump plans to end Russia's war against Ukraine in the coming days

Trump hopes for a quick end to the Russian-Ukrainian war
Source:  Politico

According to Politico, US President Donald Trump's team has developed a new major peace deal with Russia that should end the war in Ukraine. The White House expects that hostilities on the front will end in the coming days, probably by the end of November 2025.

Points of attention

  • The White House believes that Ukraine, given recent corruption scandals, will be pressured to accept the terms of the agreement.
  • The plan has sparked debate about the potential implications for Ukrainian territories under Russian occupation and the reactions of the European Union.

Trump hopes for a quick end to the Russian-Ukrainian war

A senior White House official said they expect a framework document to end the conflict to be agreed upon by all parties by the end of this month — or possibly "as early as this week," the publication reports.

The main problem is that neither Ukraine nor Europe were involved in the creation of this plan.

In fact, this means that the Trump team does not know for sure whether Kyiv will agree to all the proposals in this document.

Journalists have not yet been able to find out what decisions are envisaged regarding the most pressing issues, primarily related to the Ukrainian territories occupied by the Russians.

Insiders claim that the White House doesn't care how the EU reacts to this plan — it simply wants to get the agreement of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky's team.

The American authorities believe that Ukraine has found itself in such a position, given the corruption scandals that are haunting Zelensky, that it will be forced to accept the proposals and demands of the States.

"A shocking failure." Expert points out Putin's main fear

What is Putin really afraid of?

Atlantic Council columnist Peter Dickinson draws the attention of the international community to the fact that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is determined to wage war against Ukraine “indefinitely,” but this does not mean that he will be able to win it.

Points of attention

  • Russia's occupation of only 20 percent of Ukraine's territory has led to 80 percent of the population becoming hostile towards Putin, making his plans more difficult to implement.
  • Putin's obsession with Ukraine stems from his fear that a democratic, European, and independent Ukraine could trigger further retreats from the Russian empire.

What is Putin really afraid of?

Over the course of more than 11 years of war, Russia was able to occupy only about 20 percent of Ukraine's territory.

This has led to the fact that the remaining 80 percent of the country's population is now hostile towards Putin and his plans, which makes their implementation much more difficult.

First of all, we are talking about Ukraine's return to the Russian orbit — Russian terror makes this scenario virtually impossible.

The Kremlin dictator’s obsession with Ukraine reflects his fear that the consolidation of a democratic, European and truly independent Ukraine could serve as a catalyst for the next stage of retreat from the Russian empire… It is now increasingly clear that his decision to invade Ukraine is a shocking failure, Peter Dickinson emphasizes.

The Russian dictator eventually realized that he could never completely destroy the very idea of the Ukrainian nation.

On the contrary, it was his actions that led to Ukraine becoming a full-fledged part of the West in the future.

"Rather than accept this catastrophic outcome, he will seek to continue the war indefinitely. Putin knows that if he stops now and accepts a compromise peace, he will be doomed to go down in Russian history as the man who lost Ukraine," the expert explained.
