The introduction of a VAT of at least 8% on oil that may come from Ukraine is currently being discussed in Poland. There was also a question about a partial ban on the import of Ukrainian sugar into the country.

New restrictions on the import of goods from Ukraine are being discussed in Poland

Polish Deputy Minister of Agriculture Michal Kolodziejczak announced that he will request a minimum of 8% VAT on Ukrainian oil and restrictions on importing sugar into Poland this week.

This was reported by Polskie Radio.

We analyze what is happening. The Ministry of Agriculture did not have an appropriate unit to analyze how many and what kind of goods were coming to Poland on an ongoing basis. Today, we analyze it once a week. Complete data comes in, for example, how many frozen raspberries arrived this year, — said Kolodziejczak.

According to him, several hundred tons of frozen raspberries have arrived from Ukraine this year.

The invoice price of frozen raspberries is 1 euro 15 cents, which is less than 5 zlotys. In Poland, it is unprofitable to grow raw vegetables for such an amount. I do not agree with this, we are building Polish production and limiting imports, — said the deputy minister.

He added that he plans to apply to introduce VAT of at least 8% on oil that can come from Ukraine to Poland.

Why should it be a 0% rate, which is intended for Polish producers and Polish consumers, so that production here is profitable? — said Kolodziejczak.

The deputy minister announced that he would also campaign for restrictions on the import of Ukrainian sugar.

I can assure you that, most likely, this week I will speak in favor of introducing restrictions on the import of sugar to Poland, — added Kolodziejczak.

The problem with the import of Ukrainian agricultural products to Poland

On the morning of February 4, Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Siekierski visited the Polish-Ukrainian checkpoints of Korchova and Medyka. He stated that the inspection at the border revealed excessive import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

He said the inspections showed the need to strengthen veterinary inspection and involve additional veterinarians.

Meanwhile, Polish farmers are dissatisfied with the European Commission's proposal to extend the suspension of import quotas and duties for Ukrainian exports to the EU for another year. They are planning a new border blockade on February 9.
