Polish Minister of Agriculture supports farmer protests, warning Ukraine about a total blockade of imports

Czesław Siekierski

The chief of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture, Czeslaw Sekerski, said that Ukraine should prepare for the fact that Warsaw will introduce a complete blockade of imports in certain areas.

The Polish minister supported the farmers' protests

According to the Polish government official, farmers' protests against the influx of goods from Ukraine are justified.

Farmers have legitimate fears, expectations, and demands to limit the excessive flow of goods from Ukraine and other non-European markets to the territory of the EU, particularly Poland.

According to him, Poland and other border countries suffered the most from the EU's decision to liberalize trade and open the EU to the flow of goods from Ukraine without tariffs and quotas.

Czesław Siekierski draws attention to the fact that this was supposed to be a form of aid to Ukraine, but it, they say, harmed Warsaw.

We understand the help, the Poles provided a lot of it and from the bottom of their hearts (...) We are conducting bilateral negotiations with Ukraine about the fact that we want to establish certain quotas, volumes that we will control. If there is too much of a certain product, there will be a blockade, Czesław Siekierski said.

He also reiterated that the protests of Polish, French and German farmers helped put pressure on the EC.

Ukraine may face a complete blockade by Poland in specific import areas

As Czesław Siekierski warns, Warsaw will be forced to introduce a total blockade of imports in certain areas, such as grain.

The analysis is ongoing and may primarily concern sugar and poultry meat.

We will make proposals to the EC, but we also want to establish this in relations with Ukraine... We will conduct negotiations unequivocally until the end, because the right is on the side of the farmers and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, which has a similar position to the farmers, — said the Polish minister.
