According to Handelsblatt, Kyiv's partners are already actively discussing changing the format of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine ("Ramstein"). They want to give leadership in this matter directly to NATO.

How the Rammstein format might change

Journalists managed to find out that Kyiv's allies want NATO to coordinate the supply of Western weapons to the Armed Forces in the future.

It is worth noting that this idea has already been supported by the leadership of the Alliance, which is ready to undertake such a duty.

The editors of Handelsblatt also draw attention to the fact that this plan was created by:

  • Joe Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan;

  • NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

According to preliminary data, the discussion of this idea has already taken place within NATO.

This concept is supported, in particular, by Eastern European states, as well as Great Britain and France. The German government is skeptical because it believes it will feed the Kremlin's narrative that NATO is at war with Russia.

As the journalists explain, the search for a new format began against the backdrop of NATO members' fear of Donald Trump's return to the White House.

When is the next Rammstein meeting?

A new meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine ("Ramstein") will be held next week, February 14.

What is important to understand is that it will be the nineteenth in two years of the full-scale Russian Ukrainian war.

In addition, it is reported that the following day, February 15, a meeting of the defense ministers of the Alliance countries will take place, which will meet at the NATO headquarters in Brussels under the chairmanship of Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

As mentioned earlier, the previous meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine was held on January 23.
