US to announce the new package of military aid to Ukraine for $100 million

US Department of Defense
Lloyd Austin

The United States allocated a new military aid package worth 100 million dollars to Ukraine. It should meet the immediate needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, in particular, air defence, artillery ammunition, and anti-tank weapons.

What contains the new US military aid package

According to the US Department of Defense, the new package includes additional air defence systems, artillery ammunition, anti-tank weapons and other equipment to help Ukraine defend itself.

The package includes:

  • Stinger anti-aircraft missiles;

  • one HIMARS and additional ammunition;

  • 155 mm and 105 mm calibre artillery shells;

  • tube-launched missiles with optical tracking and wire guidance (TOW);

  • Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems;

  • more than 3 million cartridges for small arms;

  • explosive munitions for clearing obstacles;

  • equipment for cold weather;

  • spare parts, maintenance and other auxiliary equipment.

The Pentagon adds that this is the 51st transfer of equipment under the Biden administration, which will be provided to Ukraine from the reserves of the Ministry of Defense starting in August 2021.

Security assistance to Ukraine is a smart investment in our national security. It helps prevent greater conflict in the region and deter potential aggression elsewhere, strengthening our defense industrial base and creating high-skilled jobs for the American people in dozens of states across the country.

The Pentagon added that it is essential that Congress take steps to support Ukraine by approving President Biden's request for additional funding.

Austin's visit to Kyiv

On November 20, US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin arrived in Kyiv. He met with Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

Today I am here to convey an important message — the United States will continue to support Ukraine in its struggle for freedom against Russian aggression both now and in the future, Austin said.

It also became known that a new meeting in the Rammstein format will occur on Wednesday, November 22.
