Ukraine has caught up with Russia in producing kamikaze drones, says Strategic Industries minister

Oleksandr Kamyshin

In 2024, Ukraine overtook Russia in producing kamikaze drones similar to Iran's Shahed.

Ukraine produces its analogues of Iranian Shahed.

The Minister of Strategic Industry, Oleksandr Kamyshin, said on the telethon air that this year, Ukraine's ability to produce such drones is no longer inferior to Russia's.

According to him, Ukraine is succeeding both in the production of Shahed analogues and in the production of other strike drones.

Everything that explodes in Russia is our achievement.

He also commented on the parameters of the identity of Ukrainian kamikaze drones with Russian-Iranian drones.

The minister noted that they are similar in terms of the amount of explosives they carry, range, and other technical parameters.

However, Kamyshin noted that the capabilities of the Ukrainian defence complex are currently twice as extensive as what Ukraine can buy.

What the budget funds are sufficient for has already been contracted. Therefore, the government is asking allies to purchase drones for Ukraine from our manufacturers.

Production of drones in Ukraine

In October 2023, during the NATO industrial forum in Stockholm, Oleksandr Kamyshin said that Ukraine plans to manufacture tens of thousands of drones monthly.

The minister did not reveal the number of drones that Ukraine now produces monthly but said it is "several thousand units."

In December 2023, at the final press conference, Zelenskyy promised that Ukraine would produce one million Ukrainian drones in the next year.

In February, within the framework of the work of the Contact Group on Defence of Ukraine, the Coalition of Drones began to work.

The co-leaders of the coalition are Latvia and Great Britain. Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Estonia and the Netherlands have joined the alliance.

US trying to change G7 policy towards Russia

The States are putting pressure on allies in the G7
Source:  Reuters

US President Donald Trump's team is opposing the tough language in the G7 statements, cynically claiming that it could harm their efforts to engage Russia and Ukraine in peace talks.

Points of attention

  • US emphasizes tougher stance on China while softening language on Russia's actions in Ukraine.
  • US stance on G7 policy towards Russia may have significant implications for global relations and ongoing conflicts.

The States are putting pressure on allies in the G7

This was announced by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. What is important to understand is that on March 12-14, the foreign ministers of the G7 member countries will gather for a meeting in Quebec, Canada.

From the very beginning, official Ottawa counted on the Group of Seven to agree on a joint statement — from the war in Ukraine to the Middle East and China.

There was also talk of a second declaration that would outline G7 efforts to counter Russia's so-called "shadow fleet."

However, as the media has learned, agreeing on the full text of the communiqué this time has proven very difficult, and some fear that a compromise may not be found.

Donald Trump's team has done everything possible to remove references to sanctions and Russia's war in Ukraine, while demanding tougher language on China.

What is important to understand is that recently, 3 diplomats stated that the United States also opposes a separate statement regarding Russia's "shadow fleet."
