Compared to 2022, the growth of arms exports from Germany amounted to 40 percent. More than 30% of approved exports of 4.15 billion euros go to Ukraine.
Germany has become the leader in the supply of arms to Ukraine
The German government exported arms worth at least 11.71 billion euros in 2023, a record amount.
The Ministry of Economy reported this at the request of a Bundestag member, Sevim Dagdelen, from the Sarah Wagenknecht Union.
Compared to the previous year, arms exports grew 40 per cent. Over a third of approved exports of 4.15 billion euros go to Ukraine.
This is the period from January 1 to December 12, 2023, during which Germany approved the export of military weapons worth 6.15 billion euros and other military equipment worth 5.57 billion euros.
Almost 90% of these exports go to EU, NATO, Ukraine and NATO-allied countries, such as Japan, Australia and South Korea.
The largest importers of German weapons after Ukraine were Norway (1.2 billion euros), Hungary (1.03 billion euros), Great Britain (654.9 million euros), the United States (545.4 million euros), and Poland (327.9 million euros).
Germany also approved the export of weapons and other military equipment of its production for 1.76 billion euros to Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Germany helps Ukraine
On December 22, the German government updated the list of military aid to Ukraine, announcing the transfer of three Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft systems with spare parts in addition to the 49 already transferred.
Previously, the Patriot anti-aircraft missile complex and its missiles were included in the list of military aid provided by Germany to Ukraine.
Before that, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Germany should be ready to increase support for Ukraine against the weakening support from others.
