The US Congress, despite the opposition of ex-president Donald Trump and his supporters, agreed on the text of the agreement on strengthening measures on the border with Mexico, which paves the way for the approval of funding for further aid to Ukraine.

What is known about the approach of Congress to the approval of further aid to Ukraine

According to the publication journalists, the agreement's text should be public in the coming days.

The proposal, which is being discussed in Congress, would significantly change immigration policy in order to curb migration amid a record flow of people arriving at the southern border of the United States. This would include significant concessions on the part of the Democrats in exchange for the support of the Republicans on the issue of providing military aid to Israel and Ukraine, the authors of the material emphasise.

The publication warns that the agreement's failure to finance Ukraine by the US further will have global consequences.

The Pentagon warned that Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines of a brutal war with Russia risk running out of ammunition.

In turn, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that "the future of the war in Ukraine" and "the security of our Western democracy" depend on Congress reaching an agreement.

What is known about Trump's opposition to the agreement on aid to Ukraine

Currently, according to The Hill journalists, the Republican Party representatives in the US Senate, who are in favour of approving the aid financing to Ukraine, call on the supporters of ex-president Donald Trump not to block this agreement.

This week, the chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, Ernst, asked colleagues who supported the former president in the current campaign to ask him to refrain from criticizing the future deal until lawmakers can study its details.

Ernst and other Republicans are concerned that Trump will block a bill aimed at helping Ukraine and improving border security before the deal's text is made public.

Republican Senators James Landford and Kevin Cramer said that a deal on border security with Mexico, which provides for continued aid to Ukraine, should be concluded now.

At the same time, Republican Senator Mitt Romney called Trump's position regarding the agreement on financing aid to Ukraine "terrible."

And the fact that he told Republican senators and congressmen that he doesn't want us to solve the border problem because he wants to blame it on Biden is really terrible. And someone is running for president not to try to solve a problem. Instead of saying, Hey, drop this problem. Don't solve it. "Let me take responsibility for solving this problem later," Romney said.

Trump responded to Romney's remarks and said Republicans should "reject anything short of a perfect deal, even if it pushes the country into a temporary shutdown."
