Certain defense and political solutions will help Ukraine on its way to joining NATO.
Zelenskyy named Ukraine's expectations from NATO.
He emphasised that strengthening Ukraine's air defence is a number one priority. According to him, Ukraine needs a weapon that fights against Russian ballistics.
Regarding political decisions, he said he would like to get at least one step towards NATO. In turn, Gitanas Nauseda noted that it would be a success for the Washington summit if it were possible to move away from the Vilnius summit and take the next step.
Nauseda noted that before the Alliance summit in the capital of Lithuania if there were still doubts as to whether Ukraine would join NATO, the question of when Ukraine would become a member of the Alliance became relevant.
The aid from Lithuania to Ukraine
Lithuania strengthened Ukraine's air defence with the NASAMS air defence system. The Baltic country produces its own EW systems and has provided several units. In addition to air defence devices, the Lithuanians sent weapons to the Ukrainians — armoured personnel vehicles, military ammunition, ground and marine radars.
They also developed a three-year aid plan, within which they will treat and rehabilitate the wounded, repair equipment, participate in demining, etc. The head of the Ukrainian government, Denys Shmygal, thanked the Lithuanian delegation led by Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite for Ukraine's support.
In his post, the politician reminded that this country provided more than $1 billion of aid.
