In his Oval Office address, the president said he was "filled with grief and anger over the horrific murder of Charlie Kirk on college campus in Utah."

Trump also emphasized his close ties with Kirk, who has become a close political ally and personal friend of the Trump family.
"This is a dark moment for America," the president added, describing the efforts of an activist who traveled the country and held "good faith debates."
Trump also noted that he had become a "martyr for truth and freedom" and called for prayers for the family of the deceased.
The president linked Kirk's death to his own injury in the Butler shooting in July 2024, as well as other high-profile incidents of violence.
In particular, the leader mentioned the shooting of a United Healthcare executive in New York in December and the 2017 assassination attempt on House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, emphasizing the "political violence of the radical left."
The president said Americans and the media should “recognize the fact that violence and killing are the tragic consequences of demonizing those you disagree with.” Trump promised further action, announcing a broader plan to combat political violence.
My administration will find everyone involved in this crime and other cases of political violence, including the organizations that fund and support it, as well as those who persecute our judges, law enforcement officers, and all others who maintain order in our country.
There are currently no arrests in connection with Kirk's murder. Police initially arrested one person but released him after questioning.
