Official Tehran has appointed Ayatollah Alireza Arafi as acting Supreme Leader of Iran. This decision was made after Ali Khamenei was assassinated on February 28 as a result of US and Israeli strikes.
Points of attention
- Alireza Arafi, a prominent Iranian Shiite cleric, previously served as a preacher and writer before assuming the responsibilities of the Supreme Leader.
- The appointment of Ayatollah Alireza Arafi signifies a significant shift in Iran's leadership structure and raises questions about the country's future direction.
Iran has already found a replacement for Khamenei
As journalists managed to find out, Alireza Arafi has already been appointed a member of the interim council.
It was he who took responsibility for fulfilling the duties of the Supreme Leader during the transitional period.
A statement on this occasion was made by the council's spokeswoman, Mohsen Dehnavi.
The Expediency Council elected Ayatollah Alireza Arafi as a member of the interim governing council.
According to the latest reports, a temporary council, whose members include the president and the head of the judiciary, will govern Iran until the Assembly of Experts "elects a permanent leader as soon as possible."
Not long ago, journalists claimed that during the transitional period, Iran would be led by President Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of the judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and one of the members of the Guardian Council.
What's important to understand is that Alireza Arafi is an Iranian Shiite cleric. Before the Islamic Revolution, he was a preacher and writer.
