Switzerland will host a two-day Global Peace Summit from June 15 to 16. Russia has previously made it clear that it will not participate in this initiative.

When and where will the Global Peace Summit be held?

In January, Switzerland announced it would hold a peace summit at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Since then, according to The Guardian, the country has held talks with the EU, G7 members, China, and India to win their support.

There is now sufficient international support for a high-level conference to start the peace process, the Swiss Federal Council said in a statement.

The conference will take place on June 15-16 at the Bürgenstock resort in the canton of Nidwalden near the city of Lucerne.

The Guardian notes that the Conference will aim to create a framework conducive to a comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine and "a concrete road map for Russia's participation in the peace process."

Russia has repeatedly stated that it is allegedly "not against" negotiations to end the war, but Russian officials have said that they will not participate in the talks in Switzerland.

According to the Russians, Switzerland has abandoned its neutrality regarding Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Swiss authorities have not yet made the complete list of participants public.

Zelenskyy's peace plan

Zelenskyy's proposals were first heard at the G20 summit in November 2022, when the president discussed the issue with US President Joe Biden in Washington.

Russian MFA chief Sergei Lavrov has rejected this plan, saying it is "impossible to implement."

The "Peace Formula" consists of 10 points:

  1. Radiation and nuclear safety.

  2. Food security.

  3. Energy security.

  4. Release of all prisoners and deportees;

  5. Implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the world order;

  6. Withdrawal of Russian troops and cessation of hostilities;

  7. Restoring of justice;

  8. Anti-ecocide;

  9. Avoiding escalation;

  10. Fixing the end of the war.
