The Union of Slovakian transporters threatens to block the Ukrainian border for their colleagues from Ukraine.

What is known about the threats to Slovak carriers

It is noted that representatives of the Union of Transporters of Slovakia (UNAS) sent a letter to the Ministry of Transport of the country threatening to block the border with Ukraine if the European Commission does not return to the practice of issuing commercial permits for transportation within the EU.

Carriers demand from the Ministry of Transport of the country cooperate with representatives of the European Commission regarding the return of the practice of issuing permits for transportation through the territory of the EU for Ukrainian carriers.

Slovakian cargo transport is on its edge. As you can see, Polish transporters are blocking their borders because they have the same problem as our transporters, the letter says.

UNAS claims that the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic has been neglecting freight transport for a long time and completely ignoring the problem.

According to the Slovak media, due to an increase in freight traffic on the night of Sunday, November 12, freight transport movement was restricted on Slovakia's eastern border.

Queues of cars were lined up in front of the border crossing Vyshnye Niemetske and the adjacent territories.

Last week, the Association of Transporters of the Slovak Republic (ČESMAD) paid attention to the problems related to the easing of rules and conditions for Ukrainian transporters after the start of the war in Ukraine. Its members also called for the abolition of visa-free transportation for Ukraine.

The Ministry of Transport of Slovakia agreed that the increase in the number of transports on the territory of the EU by Ukrainian carriers "negatively affects the economy of the European Union".

They promised that in early December, Slovakia's Minister of Transport will propose to Brussels to review the EC's decision, according to which permits are not required until June 30, 2024.

What is known about Zelenskyy's negotiations with the President of Slovakia

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with his colleague from Slovakia, Zuzana Chaputova.

In particular, one of the topics was Ukraine's negotiations with the European Commission regarding EU membership.

He thanked for the high assessment of our progress regarding the start of accession negotiations with the EU. He also noted the participation of the representative of Slovakia in the meeting of advisors regarding the implementation of the peace formula, Zelenskyy noted.

According to him, he discussed with Chaputova the challenges facing Ukraine in terms of energy security this winter.

Cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia in the economic sphere was also one of the topics of the negotiations.
