The corresponding decision was made after the visit of the new AFU Commander-in-Chief and Minister of Defense Rustem Umierov to the Avdiivka and Kupiansk directions.

Syrskyi noted that in order to reduce the offensive potential of the occupiers, the Ukrainian troops will be regrouped and reserves will be mobilised.

Based on the work results, operational decisions were made regarding the involvement of reserves, combat systems, fire support and regrouping troops and forces in these areas, and the localisation of enemy forces to reduce his offensive potential, — said Syrskyi.

Syrskyi also discussed with the commanders the issue of combat support of the units.

In view of the rapid change in the situation on the battlefield, I delegated the authority to the commanders to independently make appropriate urgent decisions in order to preserve the lives of the personnel, — said Sirskyi.

The AFU Commander-in-Chief noted that the occupiers in the Avdiivka and Kupiansk areas are stepping up their efforts, throwing dozens and hundreds of soldiers into "meat assaults" and shelling the front-line territories.

At the same time, the Defence Forces of Ukraine inflict losses on the enemy. Only in the Avdiyiv directionon the last day, Ukrainian defenders repelled 29 attacks by the Russian occupiers.

Battles for Avdiivka

Russian invaders have been trying to capture the city since the fall of 2023. According to the Ukrainian military, the Russians lost tens of thousands of soldiers in the battles for Avdiivka.

Currently, the invaders manage to enter the outskirts of Avdiivka. Another outpost of defense remains Koksokhim.

Vitaliy Barabash, head of the Avdiivka City Military Administration, noted that the occupying forces are in the city's private sector. The Armed Forces of Ukraine believe that if the occupying forces reach the supply artery in Avdiivka, it will complicate the logistics of our troops.

The revival of Nord Stream. Lavrov called on the US to put pressure on Europe

The US and Russia are still discussing Nord Stream
Source:  online.ua

Scandalous Russian diplomat Sergei Lavrov has officially confirmed that Moscow and Washington are holding talks on Nord Stream. Against this backdrop, the Russian Foreign Minister would like to see US pressure on European leaders.

Points of attention

  • Influential European politicians like Robert Habek and Ursula von der Leyen oppose resuming Nord Stream.
  • Lavrov's provocative statements create further controversy around the Nord Stream issue.

The US and Russia are still discussing Nord Stream

According to Putin's aide, there are still differences between Moscow and Washington.

Despite this, they say, there remains interest in restoring “normal energy security in Europe.”

Is this only in the interest of the US and Russia? There is talk of "Nord Stream". It would probably be interesting if the Americans used their influence on Europe and forced it not to give up Russian gas. But this is already some kind of surrealism.

Against this background, the scandalous Russian diplomat began to claim that "Europe and business are now paying several times more for energy than American business."

Meanwhile, people like [German Economy Minister] Robert Habek, [European Commission President] Ursula von der Leyen, [German Defense Minister] Boris Pistorius, they all say that they will never allow Nord Stream to be resumed. They are either sick people or suicidal,” the Putin henchman cynically lied.

Yale professors Snyder, Shore, and Stanley resign over Trump policies

Snyder, Stanley, and Shore leave Yale
Source:  online.ua

Three prominent critics of US President Donald Trump are leaving Yale University: history professors Timothy Snyder and Marcy Shore, and philosophy professor Jason Stanley. The decisions come amid the new administration's attacks on higher education in the United States.

Points of attention

  • Jason Stanley's forced resignation sheds light on the challenges faced by academics in an environment of political hostility, exemplified by attacks on institutions like Columbia University.
  • The move of Snyder, Stanley, and Shore to the University of Toronto and Munk School reflects the changing landscape for academics seeking a more conducive environment for their work and values.

Snyder, Stanley, and Shore leave Yale

As the Yale Daily News notes, the professors are not only leaving the university — they have decided to leave the States altogether while Donald Trump and his team remain in power here.

According to the latest reports, Snyder, Stanley and Shore will move to positions at the University of Toronto and will teach at the Munk School.

Jason Stanley said he was forced to resign because of the political climate in the United States. He was also struck by how Columbia University was suffering from attacks from the White House.

What is important to understand is that Donald Trump's team threatened to deport two students who participated in protests at Columbia University and withdrew $400 million allocated to fund research at the university.

Against the backdrop of such powerful pressure, the university was forced to agree to a number of demands from the Trump administration, including a review of its policy.

Marcy Shore officially confirmed that Munk's school had long been trying to recruit her and Snyder and that the couple had been seriously considering offers "for the past two years."

Recall that Timothy Snyder is a UNITED24 ambassador — he has publicly supported the Ukrainian people many times against the backdrop of the war waged by Russia.
